REVALUATION BOOSTS STONINGTON GRAND LIST
Stonington — The town’s 2017 grand list — the total value of all the real estate, motor vehicles and personal property such as business equipment in town — has increased 4.6 percent, primarily because of the recently completed revaluation of all property and buildings.
The $2,771,030,190 grand list shows an increase of almost $123 million compared to 2016, with almost $116 million of the increase in real estate.
The grand list is expected to drop by almost $4.8 million once eight nonprofit organizations file the proper paperwork to be tax exempt. That will drop the increase to 4.46 percent.
The town’s top 10 taxpayers are as follows:
Connecticut Light & Power, $40 million
Stone Ridge, $24 million
Aquarion Water Co., $15.2 million
Masonicare, $29.6 million
Mystic Hilton, $11.2 million
Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, $10.9 million
Residence Inn, $10.1 million
Olde Mistick Village, $9.3 million
Davis Standard $8.4 million
Yankee Gas, $8.3 million
Masonicare, however, is not reflected in the grand list as it makes an annual payment in lieu of taxes to the town that is estimated at about $260,000.
