Montville — A man who is in state Department of Correction custody on charges including attempted murder was arrested again Friday for allegedly assaulting a Corrigan Correctional Institution employee, according to state police.

Jachim Lamar Brown, 27, was charged with first-degree assault on a DOC employee. The charge is a Class B felony that generally only is seen when a weapon is used and/or there's intent to cause serious injury.

According to police, Brown attacked the officer about 9:45 a.m. Friday. Crews had to transport the officer to The William W. Backus Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Court records show he has a host of other pending cases, with charges primarily out of Bridgeport and Stratford that include but aren't limited to attempted murder, first-degree robbery and first-degree assault with a firearm.

According to the Hartford Courant, the attempted murder charge stems from a November incident in which Brown, suspected in a Bridgeport clothing store robbery, allegedly shot at an officer as he was running from the scene of the crime. powder cocaine, crack cocaine and a .45-caliber handgun.

Police linked the handgun to Jonathan Colon, 26, of Meriden and charged him with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of a firearm.

Police also charged 35-year-old Denetria L. Griffin, of 1 Farnsworth St., Apt. 2, New London, with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace.
