Joan Menhart

Lexington, S.C. — Joan Rita Menhart, 84, who recently celebrated her 66th wedding anniversary with her best friend, knight in shining armor and Korean War veteran, Robert John Menhart, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at her home in Lexington. She was surrounded by her family where she resided for the past 14 years. Before moving to Lexington, they lived in Mystic for 30 years and 16 years in Florissant, Mo.

Born in New York City, she was the only child of the late Joseph and Rita Barker of Bridgeport.

She is survived by her husband, Robert John “Bob” Menhart of Lexington, S.C.; son, Joseph (Donna) Menhart of Hartford; son, Michael (Karen) Menhart of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Susan (Kevin) Menhart-Clark of Stonington; son, David (Jill) Menhart of Lexington, S.C.; son, Paul (Bitsy) Menhart of Richmond Hill, Ga.; and daughter, Nancy Menhart of Uncasville. She was preceded in death by her first-born daughter, Marianne. She was also blessed with 13 grandchildren, Theresa Menhart, Rachel Menhart, Marie Menhart, Ethan Menhart, Andreea Menhart, Lauren Clark, Alison Menhart, Jaime Menhart, Michael Menhart, Robert Jr. Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Brian Johnson, Bradley Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Aubrie Johnson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Brightstar and Pruitt Hospice for the compassionate, loving care they provided. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Hwy, Lexington, S.C., followed by a reception at the parish hall.

Caughman-Harman Funeral Home is coordinating the arrangements located at 503 North Lake Dr. in Lexington, SC 29072.

There will be a memorial service held in the Mystic area at a later date.
