EVERSOURCE SAYS IT’S MAKING PROGRESS IN RESTORING POWER

-

Eversource announced Saturday evening that it had made “significant progress” in restoring power across the state following the nor’easter that brought heavy snow and wind to New England on Wednesday night.

Workers from both inside and outside the state had restored power to about 232,000 homes and businesses, the company said in its release. It said it was on track to bring power back to the majority of customers in the state by 11 p.m. Sunday.

“We recognize how disruptive power outages are to our customers’ lives and we greatly appreciate their patience this week as we rebuild and repair” the electric system, the utility’s Connecticut electric operations Vice President Michael Hayhurst said in the release.

He said the crews have been working around the clock since the storm hit. “... They are committed to working until every last customer is restored,” he said.

As people clean up their own properties, Eversource reminds them to be cautious in moving or cutting tree limbs and to watch out for fallen wires that might be entangled in debris. People should treat any wires as if they are live and move 10 feet away before calling 911, the company advises.

To find a listing of estimated restoration times, customers should visit www.eversource.com.

Most of the towns in southeastern Connecticut had only between 1 and 100 customers remaining without power, according to the utility’s outage map. The company serves about 1.2 million customers in the state, the release said.
