East Lyme — Alice E. (Johnson) Hendricks, 97, of Niantic, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 3, 2018, in her home.

She was born in 1920, in Springfiel­d, Mass., to Nellie and Claus Johnson, she grew up in Springfiel­d graduating from Commerce High School.

In 1945 she married Don, raising their family in Ludlow, Mass., retiring to Crescent Beach, Niantic. Owners of Hendricks’ Cottages for 25 years, Alice was a private secretary at Mass Mutual, and executive secretary for the Greater Springfiel­d Council of Churches. She was very active in the First Church of Ludlow and Niantic Community Church. More than anything she loved her family.

She leaves her son, Alan Hendricks of Niantic; her daughter, Holly Hendricks of Haydenvill­e, Mass.; her niece, Carol Hunter of Groton and her great-nephew, Michael Hunter of Preston, both to whom she was especially close; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Ray Marble of Andover, Mass.; nephews, Carl (Karen) Johnson, Don Johnson, Ken (Celia) Johnson, Tom Marble; and nieces, Laura and Kathy Marble.

Alice was predecease­d by her husband in 1988; her parents; brother, Ernest Johnson; sister, Florence Meier; sisters-in-law, Esther Johnson and Jane McPherson; brotherin-law, Carl Meier; and nieces, Sandra and Lynne Johnson. Services were private. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Alice with donations to Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfiel­d, MA 01104.
