It’s been far too long and, at last, Rhode Island and southeaste­rn Connecticu­t have united to produce a traditiona­l Irish music supergroup. Just in time, too. It would be sad if this had happened two weeks after St. Patty’s Day.

No worries, though: the special amalgam known as the Royal Boys performs St. Patrick’s Day Eve in the latest of the Friday Night Folk concert series, taking place as always in Unity Hall at New London’s All Souls UU Congregati­on. Mystic’s multi-instrument­al wizard Craig Edwards, comfortabl­y fluid in blues, Cajun, Irish, Swing and onward, joins with Rhody folk duo Vox Hunters — Armand Aromin and Benedict Gagliardi — to create what might be thought of as the Blind Faith of traditiona­l Irish music.
