IRREVERENT ONE-ACT PLAYS TO BE STAGED IN NORWICH

"Marching Into Oblivion" is an evening of six one-act plays "intent on injecting the desperate descent of a dispirited society with some much-deserved absurdity and irreverenc­e," according to organizers. The performanc­es will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Norwich Arts Center's Donald Oat Theater. The plays are: "The Perverted Pumper" by Anna Maria Trusky: A lonely man is hauled into the 69th Precinct's Special Perverts Unit for questionin­g in a series of grisly murders.

"Amelia's Untimely Demise" by Michael R. McGuire: A woman who should have died decides it isn't her time. She still has romance and a better job in her future.

"The Summer of the Frozen Cucumber" by Anna Maria Trusky: In 1816 (known as "the year without a summer" in New England due to climate change caused by the eruption of Mt. Tambora in Indonesia the previous year), the Frosts, a farming family in Vermont, struggle to cope with the freakishly arctic July weather conditions.

"Cheeseburg­er Eddie" by Ken Schroeder: A team of scientists create a monster when they feed a test subject an exclusive diet of cheeseburg­ers.

"Ursula Fernhouse Checks Out" by Michael R. McGuire: A hired killer faces his most elusive prey on what should be a simple job.

"Svelte" by Ken Schroeder: A group of misfit superheroe­s meet, commiserat­e, and verbally spar in a special rehab program.

Trusky, Schroeder, and Corey Gonzales direct. Actors include Keith Eugene Brayne, Dave Carter, Helen Cronin, Liz DiVenere, Mark Fitton, Vanessa Gumbs, James Kenney, Dale Magnuson, Suzanne S. McCormack, Dorian Mendez, Phillip Michel, Brittany Miskell, Tricia Montes, Dan Pesino, and Hank Savin.

Some language and themes may not be suitable for children.

General admission is $15.
