Waterford — Catherine H. “Kitty” Tytla of Waterford, passed away unexpected­ly on Feb. 14, 2018.

Kitty was a lifelong resident of Waterford. She was born on Dec. 31, 1928, in Uncasville, to Joseph P. and Helena Radynska Tytla. The family relocated to Waterford, and for many years operated a grocery business at the corner of Boston Post and Cross Roads.

Kitty attended Jordan School in Waterford, and graduated from Chapman Technical High School in New London. For the majority of her working career, Kitty was employed as an executive secretary in the contracts division of General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton. She retired from that position in 1983. Thereafter, she worked on a part-time basis as an administra­tive assistant at the office of the Old Lyme Resident Trooper, finally retiring in 1986.

Kitty is survived by her aunt Ksenia Radynski of East Lyme; nephew Lawrence Tytla of Waterford; nieces Lynn Tytla of Bronxville, N.Y. and Carol Tytla of Manhattan; much loved grandnephe­w Matthew of Providence and grandniece Jean of Waterford; sister-inlaw Ellen Tytla of Waterford; cousins Andrew Radynski and Peter Tytla of Waterford; and caring friends Corinne Puzo and Daniel Beale of Waterford.

Kitty was predecease­d by her brother Lawrence Tytla Sr. of Waterford, and sister Irene Purcell of Glendale, Ariz.

In keeping with Kitty’s wishes, no formal service is planned. Family and close friends plan a private gathering to honor and remember Kitty’s life at a date to be determined. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery in Chesterfie­ld will be private.
