H. Lorraine McDermott

North Stonington — Helen Lorraine (Enright) McDermott, 90, of North Stonington, died Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Crescent Point at Niantic. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James D. McDermott who died in 1994.

She was born on July 31, 1927, in New Haven, the daughter of Catherine (Lenihan) and John Enright. She graduated from St. Peter’s Parochial and Hillhouse High Schools in New Haven. She was employed for many years at Security Insurance Company of New Haven and resided in West Haven from 1964 to 1970 before moving to North Stonington.

She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church in North Stonington. She served with the women’s group Little League, as treasurer of all season’s council St. Thomas More, assistant registrar of voters, chairman of parent volunteers with Wheeler Junior and Senior High Schools, and treasurer of Rescon Resettlement Committee, all in North Stonington, as well as treasurer of the Pawcatuck Lioness Club.

She is survived by her sons, Michael J. McDermott of Mystic and his wife, Candy and Joseph P. McDermott of Westerly, and his wife, Ursula; grandsons, Kyle J. and Randall P. McDermott of Norwich; granddaughters, Natalie J. and Theresa J. McDermott of Westerly; six nephews, five nieces and former daughter-in-law and caregiver, Charla McDermott.

In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by sisters, Marion Pekari, Veronica Dorman and Kathleen Braun; brothers, Thomas, William, Gerald and John Enright; and one niece.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, at St. Thomas More Church in North Stonington. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Feltes and his staff at Apple Rehab Mystic, Crescent Point at Niantic and Vitas Hospice for their compassionate care.
