James Hands Sr.
Mystic — James A. Hands Sr., 103, of Jerry Browne Road, Mystic, passed away at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017. He was the husband of the late Harriet (Meyer) Hands.
Born in Rutherford, N.J., he was the son of the late Charles A. and Helen Hands. James graduated from Hamilton College with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He worked as the national sales manager for F.S. Schumacher for many years until his retirement. In addition, he was an accomplished artist, cartoonist and map maker. He will be fondly remembered as a wonderful and generous man.
He is survived by Nancy Moreland of Stoneridge; his son, James A. Hands Jr. of Maryville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, James A. Hands III, Jennifer L. Hands, Ted Van Singel and Catherine Van Singel; as well as two great-grandchildren, Emma and Gus.
James was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Van Singel.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, March 24, at Stoneridge, 186 Jerry Browne Road, Mystic.
