ONLINE FEEDBACK

-

Here is what folks commenting on theday.com had to say about our March 18 editorial, “Regional animal shelter proves doggone difficult,” which backed efforts to create a regional facility but questioned why such a good idea has proved so difficult.

“I think the Toys R Us site would be the perfect spot. It would make good reuse of the building too.”

— Rascals

“Rascals, pretty sure this would be a non profit. I doubt anyone wants to take that property off the tax rolls.”

— Maryanne01

“Can you say Unions? It's as simple as that. They might lose a worker or two. Jeez, can't everyone see that?”

— Frisky2

“How about the land on Old Colchester Road or off Rte. 85. There must be some town-owned land that is viable. This is not like they’re going to build a prison which no one wants in their backyard.”

— Tea

“It has nothing to do with unions and everything to do with locals not wanting to share anything. Sadly, the same people who fight attempts at regionalization of services are among those who leave CT upon retirement because of the high cost of living. Go visit them and it won't take ten minutes for them to tell you how much they pay in taxes in their new states. Regionalize dog pounds, police services, fire services, education and more. In fact, instead of regionalization we should consolidate towns, paring CTs ridiculous 169 municipalities by half at least.”

— Thomas M. Moriarty

“Thomas M, I agree. And if it’s this difficult to consolidate dog pounds, how difficult would it be with schools, public safety, and the public infrastructure? Many people are aware that consolidation is a good idea, but many people don’t like it because they might lose CONTROL.”
