Mariners riding a wave

• Two Mitchell College men’s lacrosse players earned weekly New England Collegiate Conference honors. Junior Kyle Marsh, a Montville High School graduate, was named the league’s player of the week after chipping in three goals, three assists and 16 ground balls in two games for the Mariners. Jack Dalton received rookie of the week, contributi­ng four goals and winning 16 of 32 face-offs.

• The NECC picked Stephanie Adams its softball rookie of the week. Adams went 6-for-6 with a double, triple, four RBI and four runs scored for the Mariners in a doublehead­er sweep of Lyndon State. She has started all eight games, batting a team-best .688.

Tracking the Bears

• Coast Guard Academy junior Trey Johnson was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference lacrosse defensive athlete of the week. Johnson made a season-high 13 saves in a 12-8 win over New York Maritime. He owns a league-leading 6.57 goals against average.

• Freshman Brenna Farrington is off to a program record-setting start for the women’s lacrosse team. Last week, she set school records for goals and points in a game by scoring nine in a 21-15 win over NEWMAC foe Smith College. She also now owns the single season goal scoring record with 37, passing Niki Krugers who had 29 in 2015. Farrington leads the conference in goals and ranks second in points with 38. The Bears (6-1) already have set a program record for wins in a season.

• Junior Luke Thompson is on a tear for the baseball team. In the last five games prior to Monday’s action, Thompson is 16 for 22 and owns a league-leading .514 batting average overall.

Highlighti­ng the Camels

• On Tuesday night, Connecticu­t College hosts crosstown rival Coast Guard (5-1) at 7:30 in men’s lacrosse action. The Camels (6-1) are ranked for the first time in program history, checking in at No. 20. Players to watch for the Camels include senior Ben Parens, a face-off specialist, and leading scorers Maxx Trotsky (14 goals, five assists), Jordan Foster (16 goals, two assists) and P.J. Kelleher (10 goals, 14 assists). Conn needs just one victory to equal last season’s win total of seven.

Around the region

• Western Connecticu­t State University’s Ryan Reuling, a sophomore from Groton, had two goals and three assists in a 12-3 win over Purchase College in men’s la crossse action on Saturday. Reuling is a Fitch graduate.

• Erin McCarthy scored two goals and fellow Old Lyme graduate Maggie Berger added one in Endicott College’s 19-5 win over Salve Regina on Saturday. East Lyme’s Alexandra Rose came off the bench to make five saves in goal.

• Ledyard High School graduate Brooke Scahill, a junior at Mount Ida, became the eighth player in women’s lacrosse program history to break the 100-career point barrier last week in a 15-3 win over Becker College on Thursday. She added four goals and four assists in Saturday’s 20-9 win over Rivier.

• Simmons College freshman Molly Reinhold had a goal, four draw controls and two ground balls in an 18-8 loss to Johnson & Wales on Thursday. Reinhold, a Fitch grad, has nine goals and three assists through seven games this season.

• Waterford’s Sara Buscetto was selected as the Southern Connecticu­t State University female athlete of the week. A leadoff batter on the softball team, Buscetto went 8-for-15 with seven RBI, 10 runs scored and five stolen bases in four games. Freshman catcher Emily Borysewicz (Waterford) and freshman pitcher/first baseman Jayden Delaporta (Fitch) also are on the team.

• Kazi Walker, a sophomore from Waterford, has made three relief appearance­s, pitching a total of five innings, for the Stonehill College softball team.

• Redshirt sophomore pitcher Connor Lewis of Waterford has seen limited action so far as a member of the Hartford baseball team. He’s appeared in two games and not allowed a run in 1.1 innings.

• Sophomore Buddy Dewaine went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Central Connecticu­t State University’s 9-5 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. A day earlier, he went 3-for-4 with two RBI in a 5-3 win to open the series. Dewaine is tied for second on the team in RBI with 10.

• The Southern Connecticu­t State baseball roster features junior pitcher Quantique White of New London and sophomore pitcher Cameron Winiarz, a St. Bernard graduate.
