Noank — Ruth (Proctor) Hodgson, 98, of Noank, wife of the late Leroy E. Hodgson, died Monday, March 26, 2018, at Pendleton Nursing & Rehab in Mystic, following a brief illness.

Born in Norwich, she was the daughter to the late John and Edna (Bentley) Proctor and lived in Noank since 1945.

A graduate of NFA, she continued her education and earned her B.A. from Eastern Connecticu­t State University.

Ruth was an elementary schoolteac­her, beginning her career in a one-room schoolhous­e in the Chaplin and Norwich areas. She eventually finished her career with the Groton school system, retiring in 1981.

She was an avid traveler, taking numerous trips abroad, was a member of the Groton Senior Center and a member of the Swinging Stars Dance Group. Ruth was an active lifetime member and honorary deacon at the Noank Baptist Church.

Ruth is survived by her two children, Russell Hodgson of Griswold and Nancy Nazro of Noank; sister Barbara Wheeler of Uncasville; six grandchild­ren, Andrew Barber, Daniel Barber and his wife Gina, Adam Nazro and his wife Desiree, Joanna Nazro, Nicole Winters and her husband Robert, and Russell Hodgson II and his wife Jennifer; seven great-grandchild­ren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1 in Mystic. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Noank Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at the Elm Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
