CGA women’s lacrosse team keeps on rolling

Boston — Freshman Brenna Farrington scored four goals to continue her torrid scoring pace as Coast Guard Academy rolled to a 19-3 win over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game on Saturday.

Farrington now leads the NEWMAC in goals (46) and points (47).

In addition, former Fitch High School star Daria McKenna continued to inch closer to becoming the first player in program history to record 100 career points. The senior had two goals and two assists for the Bears (8-1, 2-0) and now sits at 97 career points.

Carter Sanderson also scored four goals for Coast Guard while Haley McCue added two goals and one assist and Haley Howard added one goal and one assist. In other games: • No. 7 Tufts routed Connecticu­t College 20-7 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Tufts (7-1, 4-0) scored four goals in less than four minutes of a 7-0 run in the first half to take control. Julia Loesch had a goal and two assists for the Camels (3-6, 0-5).

Men's lacrosse

• Coast Guard overcame a 4-2 halftime deficit to defeat Clark 9-5 in the NEWMAC. Anthony Wyler led the Bears (6-2, 1-0) with three goals, all in the secondhalf, while Riley McNulty had a goal and two assists, Benner Geurtsen had two goals and Will Iorio added a goal and an assist.

• No. 3 Tufts remained unbeaten with an 11-8 win over No. 20 Conn College in the NESCAC. The Jumbos (7-0, 4-0) snapped Conn's threegame winning streak. Jordan Foster had three goals and an assist to lead the Camels (6-2, 3-2) while Matt Trotsky added two goals and one assist and P.J. Kelleher had a goal and two assists.

• Montville's Kyle Marsh had two goals and an assist during Mitchell College's 23-3 loss to Merchant Marine. The Mariners are 0-7.

Softball

• Mitchell ran its winning streak to eight with a doublehead­er sweep of Wheelock in the New England Collegiate Conference. The Mariners (8-6, 4-0) won the opener 8-0 and the second game 10-0. Both games were called after five innings due to the mercy rule. Taylor Duchesneau pitched a two-hitter in the opener for her third shutout of the season while Shyla Phillips Krick allowed only three hits in the second game. Stephanie Adams went 4-for6 with three RBI and a run scored to pace the Mitchell offense while Italia Krick and Danielle Autieri finished with three hits apiece, including a pair of doubles for each.

• MIT beat Coast Guard 7-2 and 3-2 in eight innings to sweep their NEWMAC doublehead­er in Cambridge, Mass. Freshman Charlee Kraise had three hits and scored twice in the two games for the Bears (11-5, 4-2). MIT is 11-4-1, 5-1.

Baseball

• Mitchell completed a threegame weekend sweep of Newbury with a 9-3 NECC win. Steven Pagan, Eric Marriott and Markus Melendez had three hits apiece for the Mariners (15-2, 5-1) while Peter Abate was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and winning pitcher Bryton Ferris (4-0) scattered five hits over 5.2 innings.

• Babson swept a NEWMAC doublehead­er from visiting Coast Guard, defeating the Bears 5-1 in the opener and 18-2 in the second game. Alex Murdoch and Luke Thompson had two hits apiece in the opener for Coast Guard (6-8, 0-5), while Murdoch drove in a run in the second game while Reed Jenkins was 2-for-4.

• Avery Point split a doublehead­er with SUNY Westcheste­r, winning the second game 3-2 after losing the opener 13-5. Former NFA standout Andy Grant got the win in the opener, striking out five over six innings. Ryan Bagdasaria­n and Mike Savino drove in runs in the second game for the Pointers (7-3-1). Mike Chiovitti and Bagdasaria­n homered in the opener.

Men's track & field

• Raeford Penny finished second in the 400-meter race (50.31 seconds) as Coast Guard opening its outdoor season at the Navy Spring Invitation­al in Annapolis, Md. Other place-winners for the Bears were Luke Rehfuss in the 400 hurdles (fifth, 57.36), Justin Jezuit in the discus (fifth, 139-4) and hammer (sixth, 142-7), Adam VanDeren in the 3K steeplecha­se (sixth, 10:15.02), Matthew Doyle in the 5K (sixth, 15:46.52), Michael Bishop in the 200 (eighth, 22.32), and Dante Roberts in the discus (eighth, 125-3) and shot put (eighth, 39-5.25).

Men's tennis

• The doubles team of Ben Sachs and Will Cannon won Conn College's lone match during an 8-1 loss to Bowdoin in the NEWMAC. Sachs and Cannon won 9-8 at No. 1 doubles for the Camels (1-3, 0-1).

Women's tennis

• No. 14 Bowdoin handed Conn College its first loss, 8-1, in the NESCAC. Stephanie Simon picked up the lone win for the Camels (2-1, 0-1) with a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Aleksandra Drljaca and Emily Migliorini each won their singles and doubles matches during Conn's 7-2 win over Division II Bentley on Friday. Drljaca rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 15-13 win in her No. 1 singles match while Migliorini won her No. 2 singles match 6-3, 3-6, 10-2.
