ONLINE FEEDBACK

This is how some readers on theday.com reacted to the March 28 editorial, “Connecticut Senate Republicans borrow a page from Washington counterparts,” which called Republican legislative opposition to the promotion of Justice Andrew McDonald to chief justice a mistake that could haunt them politically come November’s election.

“The Democrats are desperate for an election year issue, they can't run on their economic record, so they create an issue when one doesn't exist. I don't think McDonald given his political background, should have ever been nominated for a judgeship. If there is a breakdown between judicial indifference and politics it was caused by the heavy baggage that McDonald himself brought to the bench. He certainly didn't exhibit the behavior I'd expect in a judge.”

“Twice the anti-GOP editorial team wrongly claims the GOP Senate ‘blocked’ MacDonald (sic). A purposeful lie and smear to plant a seed against the GOP with gullible voters in November. The senators VOTED against him, thereby rejecting him the seat of Chief Justice. No one was blocked. But the hard-left editors’ obvious hatred and bias against Republicans is exposed by writing the lie by calling democracy a block.”

“The editorial board is entitled to an opinion, an incorrect one, but one none the less. The nomination was defeated for McDonald’s death penalty legislating from the bench, plain and simple. As for the accolades he received from lawyers, really the folks that might have to be heard by the supreme court are going to speak poorly of a justice?!”

“Taking the word of Republicans that homosexuality had nothing to do with this matter requires one to be daft as a hatter. I would urge the editorial board to avoid playing nice when it comes to the Christian schism regarding homosexuality and the death penalty. It is an identifying split … sea to sea, a Con/Lib litmus test, for sure.”
