New London — Elvira M. “Vee” Carboni, 81, of New London, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 3, 1937, in New London, the daughter of the late John and Clara (Basili) Montesi. She attended local schools and graduated from New London High School. Mrs. Carboni worked at Southern New England Telephone, Sears Roebuck and the communicat­ion department at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. She was united in marriage to Lidio “Lee” Carboni, on Oct. 18, 1958, in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Mr. Carboni died Feb. 28, 1987.

Alana and Michael, her grandchild­ren, were her pride and joy. She believed in strong family values. Vera enjoyed cooking, baking, bowling, knitting and she loved to read.

She is survived by two daughters, Laurie Carboni of New London and Lisa Falanga of Uncasville; two grandchild­ren, Alana Kingsley and her partner, Tristan Cole, and Michael Falanga.

She was predecease­d by a sister, Gloria Sabilia.

Family and friends are to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St. New London. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The Impellitte­ri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, has been entrusted with her care.
