Montville boys second at Bellringer Invite

East Hampton — Montville's 4x100-meter boys' relay team set a meet record in helping the Indians finish second in Saturday's Bellringer Invitation­al track and field meet at East Hampton High School.

Gennaro Davis, Greg Clark, Daltyn Butler and Nik Angell finished in 44.57 seconds, breaking the old record of 44.74 set by Woodland. They helped Montville finish with 117 points, just seven behind champion Old Saybrook's 124. Old Lyme was sixth with 41.

Montville also picked up a win from its 4x400 relay team of Butler, Clark, Nick Donnell and Ethan Rose (3:42.11), while Angell won the 100 dash (12.08) and Clark captured the 200 (23.29). Also for the Indians, Derek Strickland was second in the 110 hurdles (17.08), Fitch was second in the triple jump (36 feet, 11.25 inches) and long jump (19-0.5), Davis was third in the 100 (12.47), Rose was third in the 400 (56.67), Colin Nickerson was third in the 300 hurdles (46.47), Angel was third in the 200 (24.23), Jayden Colon was third in the 3,200 (11:32.28).

For Old Lyme, the 4x800 relay team of William Bartlett, Casey Blue, Trevor Wells and Thomas Pennie was second (9:20.61).

Girls' track & field

• Montville's Lauren Ross finished second in three events to help lead the Indians to a third-place finish in the Bellringer Invite.

Old Saybrook won the meet with 185 points followed by East Hampton (85) and Montville (82). Old Lyme finished eighth with 26 points.

Ross was second in the 100 hurdles (18.05), 300 hurdles (53.15) and high jump (4-10) for the Indians, while their 4x100 relay team of Alex Meehan, MacKenzie Clark, Maddie Beaupre and Alexandra Peck finished second (56.65), Clark was third in the long jump (14-4) and Sheyenne Gillis was third in the triple jump (3010.75).

For Old Lyme, the 4x400 relay team of Faith Caulkins, Julia Ritchie, Chloe Cahill and Olivia Rugg finished third in 4:14.15.

Boys' lacrosse

• Pat Brady set the St. Bernard/Wheeler program scoring record in a 7-0 win over Old Saybrook. Brady finished with three goals, giving him 122 in his career, and chipped in three assists. Jack O'Leary had two goals and three assists while Scott Pion and Zack Spiers each added a goal for the Saints (2-0).

• Michael LaForte had a goal and an assist while becoming the program's all-time assist leader, lifting Waterford past Stonington 14-1. Caleb Holdridge had five goals and four assists while Logan Bowdish, Mason LaForte and Ryan Huta each added two goals apiece for the Lancers (1-2). Max Mueller had an unassisted goal for the Bears (2-1).

• Montville beat Griswold 10-1. Sam Kury led the scoring for the Indians (1-3) with three goals and two assists while winning 12 of 13 faceoffs while Zach Boyles had two goals and two assists, and Sean Ventresca added three goals.

• Chris Ladyga had three goals and an assist during NFA's 14-6 loss to South Windsor. Andrew Bannon added one goal and one assist for the Wildcats (0-2) whie Dominic Renfree and Rye Walencewic­z each scored a goal, Matt Langley had one assist and goalie Alex Medeiros made eight saves.

• Old Lyme beat Branford, 13-5, in Shoreline Conference action. Brendan Cowee had three goals and three assists while Alec Speirs had four goals and Jonathan Nichele added three goals and two assists for the Wildcats.

Girls' lacrosse

• Defending Class S state champion New Fairfield cruised to a 10-3 victory over Old Lyme in a nonconfere­nce game. Paige Britton, Daisy Colvin and Anna Sather each scored a goal for the Wildcats, who trailed 9-1 at the half, and goalie Emily Erne made 16 saves.

Baseball

• Robert Parra pitched for strong innings in relief to earn the win as New London defeated Norwich Tech 8-2 in a nonleague game. Elijah Martinez went 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI for the Whalers while Robert Otanez was 1-for-3 and drove in two runs. Devin Schnatter was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Norwich Tech.

Softball

• Kari Marks pitched a no-hitter and Granby scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a 1-0 win over East Lyme. Granby (2-0) scored the winning run on an RBI single by Ashlie Novak. Isabel Siciliano pitched well for the Vikings (0-2), allowing only five hits while striking out seven.

Girls' tennis

• Waterford rolled to a 6-1 win over Fitch. Samantha Cote rallied for a 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles for the Falcons, but the Lancers picked up wins from Sophie Joseph, Stacey Tasoulas and Alli Silva in singles, and Megan Goldschnei­der-Mickey Green, Nidi Somineni-Nitya Somineni and Kara Porter-Mia Carfi in doubles.
