Sports: Fitch’s Jarod Kosman is The Day’s All-Area Wrestler of the Year

Groton — Unbeaten Fitch High School scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally from a 4-2 deficit and defeat Bacon Academy 6-4 in a high school baseball game Monday.

The Falcons (4-0) had five straight hits to start the inning, the final one a two-run single by Weston Jacey that gave Fitch a 5-4 lead.

Giovanni Valentine went 3-for-4 for the Falcons while Calvin Jacey had two hits and Weston Jacey also doubled.

Fitch turned three double plays, the biggest one to end the sixth when Bacon had runners on first and second with one out. In other games: • Caleb Deslaurier­s went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run as Ellis Tech topped Wheeler 7-5. Jacob Keefe went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for Ellis.

Bowen Baker had an RBI double and scored twice for Wheeler (0-3) and Chris Haines added an RBI single.

• Cromwell erupted for six runs in the first inning en route to a 12-2 victory over Old Lyme in the Shoreline Conference. Jace Funaro had a pair of hits for Old Lyme (1-1, 1-1), including a two-run homer.

• Montville banged out 16 hits in a 13-6 win over Plainfield. Rob Delacruz and Byron Dewaine each had three hits and two RBI, while Jacob Plikus added two doubles and three RBI for the Indians in their season opener.

H.S. softball

• Trinity Lennon went 3-for4 with five RBI and struck out nine as Stonington overwhelme­d St. Bernard 15-0 in six innings. Abby Flakus went 3-for-4, including two triples, with four runs for the Bears (21) and Maggie Constantin­e had a double with three RBI. Emily Nelson went 2-for-3, including a triple, for St. Bernard (1-1) and Briana Beverly also went 2-for-3.

• Grace Lathrop's three-run double highlighte­d an eightrun first inning in Old Lyme's 22-5 win over New London in a game that went five innings. Maddie Cann went 2-for-2 with four runs scored for the Wildcats (3-0). Jaylynn Potter and Finella Smith each had two hits for New London (1-1).

• Plainfield scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to edge Montville 2-1. Rori Curran had a double for Montville (1-1), while Alexis Michon pitched well in a losing effort, allowing only four hits while striking out 11.

• Sara Rivers struck out 11 while earning her first career win as Ledyard beat Wheeler 14-3. Jenna Topalis had a single, two doubles, a triple and four RBI, while Madison Sanborn had two singles, a double and two RBI and Samantha Fancher added four hits and two RBI for Ledyard (3-0). Nikki Collins had a solo home run for Wheeler (02).

• Isabel Siciliano and Alex Chambers each had a double for East Lyme in a 9-1 loss to Hand. East Lyme fell to 0-3.

• Fitch saw Amity score six runs in the first inning and never recovered, losing 7-3. Allison Georgetti had a single, double, triple and two RBI and Karly Morales had two singles for Fitch (0-2).

• Cheyenne Zvinglias had three hits and three RBI as No. 9 Griswold routed Waterford 14-6. Madison Nott had two hits and drove in three runs for Waterford (1-1).

H.S. boys' lacrosse

• Jack O'Leary had three goals and seven assists to lead St. Bernard/Wheeler to an 183 win over Cromwell.

Pat Brady added three goals and two assists for the Saints (3-0) while Scott Pion scored three goals, Kevin Velez had two goals and one assist, Zack Spiers and Aaron Clark each scored twice, Roland Long had one goal and one assist and Emmett Brady and Cody Scarchilli had one assist apiece.

• Evan Socha scored four goals to power Norwich Tech/ Windham Tech past Vinal Tech 16-4. Alex Ryan had two goals and two assists for the Warriors in their opener.

H.S. girls' lacrosse

• Allyson Kehlenbach scored four goals to lift Old Saybrook past Stonington 10-7. Hannah Lamb had four goals and Catherine Cassata added three for Stonington (3-1).

College women's lacrosse

• Madison Savary had six goals and three assists as Merchant Marine defeated Mitchell College 19-1. Katie McCormack, assisted by Francesca Pinard, scored the lone goal for the Mariners (2-4) while McCormack also finished with six draw controls.

College baseball

• Luke Thompson, Jon Pressley and Alex Murdoch each had three hits for Coast Guard Academy in a 12-8 loss to Westfield State. The Bears (6-12) led 8-2 before giving up four runs in the seventh and six in the eighth.
