Waterford — George C. “Sonny” Clark Sr. of Waterford passed away peacefully on April 6, 2018, at home.

He was the loving husband for 69 years to Laura K. “Bootsie” (Lemasa) Clark. They were married on Jan. 15, 1949. He was born on Sept. 12, 1929, to the late George and Florence Burdick Clark in New London.

He attended Chapman Technical High School, then joined the U.S. Army and served with the H Troop 12th Cavalry Regiment in Japan. After being discharged, he went to work for the Nutmeg Beverage Co. He then worked at the New London Mills Co. for more than 18 years until they closed. He finally retired from Laborers Local 547 of Groton.

George bowled for 60 years, starting down the Simpson Lanes in New London, then moving on to the Family Bowl of Waterford, in various leagues. He was a member of the Moose Club of New London for many years. Later in life, he took up golfing and became a member of the Shennecossett Golf Club. The Plainfield Dog Track was also a favorite night out for him and Bootsie for many years. When it closed the casinos became their enjoyment. He was always keeping busy doing a project around his home and was an avid sports fan. The Red Sox and Patriots were his teams. George was always a proud member of the old Fort Gang.

Besides his wife Bootsie, he is survived by his seven children. George Jr. of Canterbury, Kathleen of New London, Robert (Nancy Herrick) of Stonington, Carlton (Karen) of Ledyard, Paula (Steve) Montanari of New London, Nancy Parker of Waterford and Stacy of Waterford, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His brother Charles (Sonja) of Groton, also survives. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Robert.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jane Kanowitz for her care and kindness during his illness. We also want to thank the nurses from Hospice for the compassion and care they provided.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, New London, is handling the arrangements.
