Fort Myers, Fla. — Edward R. Fialkosky Jr. passed away unexpectedly at his home in Fort Myers, Fla., on April 1, 2018. He was born July 30, 1955, in New London, to Edward R. Sr. and his late mother Barbara Janovic Fialkosky. He is survived by his father Ed Sr. and stepmother Patricia, both of Mystic; son Matthew of Aurora, Ill., his sister Debbie and husband Manny Perry of Oakdale, and niece Amanda Robinson of Wallingford.

A graduate of Montville High, Ed was an honor student and a three-sport athlete. He performed at the highest state level in both wrestling and hurdling. Ed graduated from Springfield College with a degree in physical education. During the summer of 1978, Ed and his friend Rich Graley completed a cross-country bicycle trip. Starting in Chesterfield, they cycled across the Old Lincoln Highway, through the Black Hills, Yellowstone and the Columbia River Gorge ending on the Oregon coast. An avid jogger, Ed rarely missed a day pounding the streets and beaches of Florida. He also assisted the University of Florida with archaeological digs involving studies of the ancient Calusa Indian tribe. An RVer and outdoorsman, Ed and Matt frequently visited many of America’s national parks.

After retirement from United Airlines, Ed spent his remaining days enjoying the sands of his beloved Florida beaches.

A private ceremony will be held in Connecticut to honor Ed’s life.
