Burrows pitches Waterford past Falcons

Groton — Mike Burrows scattered six hits and struck out 14 as Waterford knocked Fitch from the unbeaten ranks with a 9-1 baseball victory over the Falcons on Saturday.

The Lancers (3-1) broke open a close game with a sixrun sixth.

Walker Sutman went 3-for3 to lead Waterford, driving in a run in the first with a double and another with a single in the sixth, while Matt Driscoll was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Nick Porazzi and Sonny Pezzello each added two-run singles.

Fitch (5-0) scored its lone run on an infield single by Joe Vignato in the second, while Weston Jacey had two hits and Nick Helbig doubled. In other games: • Griffin Powers had three hits, including and double and triple, and drove in six runs as Old Lyme rolled to an 11-2 nonleague victory over Griswold. Ron Losacano added two hits for the Wildcats (3-1) while winning pitcher Jon Balocca went the distance, allowing only six hits.

• Logan Driscoll went 3-for4 with three runs and three RBI as Guilford scored seven times in the second inning of a 15-4 win over East Lyme. Guilford is 4-2. Trystan Levesque went 2-or-2, including a double, and scored for the Vikings (3-2) and Eric Patterson had two hits and scored. Also, Chris Malcom had two RBI.

Softball

• Ellie Hohlfelder pitched a one-hitter as Fitch upset No. 3 Cheshire 1-0 for its first win. Hohlfelder struck out five for the Falcons (1-3), who handed the Rams (4-1) their first defeat. Fitch scored the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth when Allison Georgetti (2-for2) scored on a passed ball after Olivia Carney's single moved her to third. Cheshire's only hit was a bloop single by Ariana Perlini in the fourth inning.

• Montville bounced back from an extra inning loss to Waterford by handing Ledyard its first loss, 4-3, also in extra innings. The Indians (3-2) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score at 3-3 before Jillian Murallo ended things an inning later with a game-ending solo home run. She also singled and scored twice and Rori Curran had two hits. Alexis Michon went the distance for Montville, allowing just one walk and striking out 14, while Jenna Topalis had a triple for Ledyard (4-1).

• Daisey Palmisano had two of Norwich Tech's five hits in an 8-0 loss to Lyman Memorial (5-0). Palmisano also had a stolen base but the Warriors (2-2) were stymied by Katee Meese, who struck out 12 against no walks.

Boys' lacrosse

• Southingto­n defeated NFA 12-4. Andrew Bannon scored twice for the Wildcats (1-4) while Mason McMahon added one goal and one assist, Ryan Foster scored a goal and goalie Alex Medeiros stopped 18 shots.

Girls' lacrosse

• Megan Larmann scored five goals as Ledyard pulled away in the second half for a 10-6 win over North Haven. Maddie Pipech added two goals and an assist for the Colonels (2-2) while Avery Samokar scored twice and Sabrina Mitchell one. Goalie Kayleigh Woomer made sevens saves.
