Concert honoring Harry Chapin takes place Saturday in Mystic

-

The 12th annual Voices For Hope & Harry Chapin Tribute Concert takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church, 119 High St., Mystic.

The event benefits local social services in southeastern Connecticut and eastern Rhode Island.

This is a family show for all ages, showcasing the music of Harry Chapin and original songs from the LUNCH Repertoire.

The LUNCH Ensemble features Grammy winner Bill Pere, one of Connecticut's State Troubadours, as well as Nashville recording artist Kay Pere, CSA past president Larry Batter, and students from schools in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

The LUNCH Ensemble has been carrying on the legacy of Harry Chapin for the last 29 years and has performed several times with the original Chapin Band in the U.S. and in Canada, raising more than $1 million for soup kitchens and homeless shelters across Connecticut and Rhode Island.

At the concert, the winner of the 2018 Voices For Hope vocal competition will be announced, and a $500 scholarship will be presented. Voices For Hope is a vocal competition program run by LUNCH to give young vocalists an opportunity to have a professional adjudication and performance experience, while using their love of singing to help others.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Visit lunchensemble.com or call (860) 572-9285.
