Eugene Levy
East Lyme — Eugene N. Levy, 87, of 39 Carriage Hill Drive, Niantic, died Friday, April 13, 2018, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 11, 1931, in New London, he was the third and youngest child of Louis and Sarah (Peiser) Levy. For the past 34 years, Gene ran his own company, New England Combustion Services, where he provided support and service to industrial boilers and burners throughout the New England region.
Gene was an avid outdoorsman who specialized in fishing. At the age of 18, he was the youngest charter boat captain in the fleet with his 38-foot Matthews, Louise. After a stint in the U.S. Army, serving in France during the Korean War, Gene returned to the states to continue to charter Louise and then went to work on the Nelseco, a ferry that ran from Providence to Newport and Block Island. He maintained a boat all his life and avidly fished up through this past summer.
He married Sandra (Kirsch) on Aug. 21, 1958, and started working on land, first selling dry cleaning equipment and supplies, and transitioning into the boiler business with various different companies.
Gene is survived by his daughter Amy Levy of Worcester, Mass., and many loving nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Congregation Ahavath Chesed Cemetery in Waterford. A memorial observance will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Tuesday and Wednesday at his late residence.
