ANNUAL WALK TO END HOMELESSNESS SLATED FOR SUNDAY IN NEW LONDON

-

New London — Southeastern Connecticut’s 11th annual Walk to End Homelessness is slated to begin Sunday at 1 p.m. on Golden Street.

The 1.8-mile walk raises awareness about homelessness and funds for the agencies that address it. The Homeless Hospitality Center and Connecticut College organize the event, which this year is expected to draw more than 500 people.

Along the way, walkers will see the St. Francis House, the Hempsted Houses, the Williams Memorial Park Historic District, the former St. Mary’s School and the New London County Historical Society. Many of the sites will feature musical or spoken word performances.

Participants also have a chance to see an exhibit called “The Faces of Homelessness” and to meet residents of the hospitality center’s Vet House.

Mohegan Sun is the lead sponsor, with Yale New Haven Health/ Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, the Waterford Group Charitable Foundation and St. Francis House also providing significant support. Mohegan Tribe Chairman Kevin Brown, Connecticut College President Katherine Bergeron and Mayor Michael Passero will deliver remarks to kick off the walk. The walk concludes at Parade Plaza with music and snacks.

Registration starts at noon on Golden Street. Dixieland jazz band The East Coast Ramblers will be on hand to provide entertainment.
