Montville — The vivacious and beautiful Jacqueline M. Roemmele, 71, of Uncasville passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018, due to complications from her battle with cancer.

Born in Brechin, Angus, Scotland in 1946 to Thomas and Agnes Rankin, she met her lifelong partner and loving husband, Vincent J. Roemmele, in Edzel, Scotland while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. On April 10, 1965 they were married. Jacqui and Vince were later transferred to Norfolk, Va., where Vince was assigned to the USS Cambria. After a short tour in Long Beach, Calif., they were transferred to the U.S. Submarine Base, Groton and made eastern Connecticut their home.

Vince and Jacqui raised three children, Richard, Jacqueline and Thomas, in Uncasville and lived in the same home at 39 Linda Ave. since 1972.

Throughout the years, Jacqui and Vince were very active with St. John the Evangelist Church in Uncasville. They participated in Marriage Encounter and Couple’s Club where they met many of their lifelong friends. Jacqui was also instrumental in “St. Martha’s Group,” a parish organization which helped to maintain St. John’s rectory.

Widely known for her talent as a singer and guitarist, Jacqui joined Vince in a duet called “Gemini.” Together, they performed for over two decades throughout southeastern Connecticut and enjoyed quite a following. Many marriages were credited to the Over 50’s Singles Dances at which they performed for many years.

Jacqui was passionate about science, nature and animals. She adored her four Siamese cats as well as many others she cared for over the years. Vince and Jacqui were world travelers. Their adventures together included Russia, many countries throughout Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and annual vacations in Aruba.

Jacqui is survived by her husband, Vince; and their three children and grandchildren: Richard, wife Diane, his daughter, Elizabeth, and stepchildren, Brett Harrison and Justin and Marc Leavitt, whose children make Jacqui a great-grandmother through marriage; her daughter, Jacqueline and her children, Vincent and his girlfriend of 16 years, Kaytee Sue, Alex Adrian and his fiancé, Julianna and Ricardo; and son, Thomas and wife, Heidi, and their children, Sarah, Ila and Ian. Jacqui is also survived by her brother, Ian Rankin; as well as many nieces and nephews throughout the U.S., Scotland and Australia. Her dazzling smile and witty sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.
