Somerset, N.J. — Charlotte Stern, formerly of 13 Morton St., New London, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the Regency Rehabilita­tion Center halfway through her 100th year.

Charlotte was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 31, 1918, youngest of the nine children of Lewis and Nettie Rawitz.

She is survived by her daughter, Betsy Becker and son-in law, Joseph Becker, of Bridgewate­r, N.J.; her son, David Stern and daughter-inlaw, Rebecca Rumbo, of Storrs; her granddaugh­ter, Rachel Becker of Brooklyn, N.Y.; her grandson, Joshua Stern of Storrs; and countless nieces/ grandniece­s and nephews/ grandnephe­ws.

While still living in Brooklyn, she married Carl Stern in 1939, and they moved to New London with their children in 1951. After Carl’s passing in 1968, she continued living independen­tly in her Morton Street home until her 97th birthday, when she moved to an assisted living facility near Betsy in New Jersey. In 1983 she retired after 20 years as an administra­tive assistant to various engineerin­g teams at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division in Groton.

Charlotte was a loving sibling, wife, mother and grandmothe­r, and aunt who doted on and inspired her family members and friends and was cherished by them. She will be remembered not only for her kind, loving nature and broadminde­dness, but for the intellect, wit and sense of humor that she maintained almost until her final day of life.

The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. May 1, at Beth El Cemetery in Groton with arrangemen­ts by Thomas L. Neilan & Sons of New London.
