David Beckwith Sr.

North Stonington — David H. “Becky” Beckwith Sr., 86, of North Stonington, husband of Jacqueline (Johnson) Beckwith, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, after an extended illness.

Born in Groton, he was the son to the late Daniel and Nellie (Beatrice) Beckwith and lived in North Stonington for 55 years.

Becky retired as a welder from Electric Boat in Groton. Post retirement, he enjoyed working part-time for many years at the Pequot Golf Club and the Wadawanuck Club in Stonington.

He enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing and working outdoors. He was a past member of the Groton Sportsmen’s Club and a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his five children, David H. Beckwith Jr. of West Mystic, Brian Beckwith and his wife Sheila of Rockville, R.I., Paul Beckwith and his wife Karen of Griswold, and Lori Beckwith and Jacquie Beckwith, both of North Stonington; two sisters, Beatrice Kirk of Niantic and Ethel Beauchamp of Groton; six grandchildren, Scott Gray and his wife Kiara, Jacqueline Gray, Matthew and Kevin Beckwith and Shawn and Jack Kinard; a great-grandchild, Lolua Gray, and a son-in-law, Paul Gray. He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Gray, and brothers Russell, Dudley and William Beckwith.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the Smith Lake Cemetery, Groton. There are no calling hours.
