GROTON CITY POLICE, MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVE SAFETY GRANT
Groton — Groton City police and Marine Science Magnet High School officials have received a $9,000 grant that will help them practice and fine-tune safety protocols for the school.
Workers’ Compensation Trust, which provides workers’ compensation coverage to the health care/human services industry in Connecticut, awarded the grant through its Safety Grant program. In a news release, police said they will use the funds to conduct active shooter drills and analyze other safety protocols that are in place.
Principal Nicholas Spera worked with police Detective Sgt. Travis Winkelman, Youth Officer Scott LeSage and Detective Dan Grimm to apply for the grant. Lt. Erick Jenkins will oversee the use of its funds.
LEARN Regional Education Service Center operates the Marine Science Magnet High School. Police said another goal of theirs is to spread the best practices they come up with to other LEARN schools.
