Ledyard boys play the spoiler’s role

Colonels topple previously unbeaten Stonington

Stonington — Ledyard High School won its fifth straight and handed Stonington its first loss of the season, 7-0 in a boys' tennis match Friday.

Nate McCracken, Brandon Donovan, Jack Woodruff and Will Reynolds won singles matches for the Colonels (81) and the doubles teams of Trevor Hutchins-Chris Charette, Nick DeAndrea-Jakob Maranzano and AJ Toth-Terry Zhao each won in straight sets. Stonington is 9-1.

Girls

• East Lyme remained unbeaten with a 5-2 win over Waterford. The Vikings (8-0) swept doubles play behind the teams of Erin Peterec-Neha Ande, Emily Zhu-Liz Beaulieu and Sophia Rogers-Becca Paggioli. Mary Kathryn Taylor and Ashley Brown won singles matches for East Lyme. Waterford (4-6) got wins from Sophie Wang and Stacey Tasoulas.

• Old Lyme beat Portland 7-0 in a Shoreline Conference match. Keelin Hurtt, Brynn McGlinchey, Emma Bass and Emma Danes won their matches in straight sets along with the doubles teams of Shannon Nosal-Kellie Sablone, Emily O'Brien-Samantha Caulkins and Hannah Wisner-Melissa Mauro. Old Lyme is 8-4.

• Stonington beat Ledyard 6-1, sweeping doubles play. Charlotte Johnstone, Makenzie Sadler and Hannah Middleton won in straight sets for the Bears (10-0), as did the doubles teams of Margot Goodman-Ainsley Johnstone, Phoebe Townsend-Brielle Fratoni-Jaskiewicz and Cassie Onorato-Morgan Lestinsky. Lucia Ibarra won at No. 4 singles for Ledyard (2-5).

• St. Bernard picked up its first win of the season, beating Montville 4-3 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division III match. Lauren O'Donnell, Aurianna Drinkwater and Kaila Sprecace won their matches for the Saints (1-7, 1-5) along with Sarah Engel and Amber Caldwell at No. 2 doubles. Linda Chen won her match for Montville (7-3, 4-2) along with the doubles teams of Luisa Alarcon-Anne Zhang and Emma Baxter-Ashley Bower.
