Old Lyme — Margaret Lovina Leathers, 98, of Old Lyme, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

She was born on July 21, 1919, in Houlton, Maine, to Edward Scott and Eva (Randall) Scott.

Margaret was predecease­d by her husband of 52 years, Frank, in 1987; by her daughter, Donna Hay in 2010; and two grandsons, Bruce Leathers and Eric Hay. In addition to her parents, she was predecease­d by her six brothers, Edward, Grover, Harley, John, William and Donald Scott; and four sisters, Pauline Maquillan, Evangeline Scott, Ruby Payne and Kathleen Person.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Leathers Getman of Lyme; son, James (Cathy) Leathers of Troy, Ill.; and grandchild­ren, Richard (Michelle) Hay, Brett (Linda) Hay, James Leathers Jr., Lynn Leathers, Beth (Bret) Lang, David (Liz) Rubitski and Jennifer (Jason) Lathrop. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchild­ren, Jaime Hay, Jessa, Mitchell and Kayla Hay, Jennifer and Colin Leathers, Gretchen, Heather and K. Robert Smith, Sydney and Davis Lang, Tabatha and Sadie Rubitski, Grace and Jonah Lathrop; and many nieces and nephews. Mom/gram/nana was a talented craftsman and her grandchild­ren shared the benefit of her beautiful crocheted angels which adorn the tops of their Christmas trees, her lemon meringue pies were famous and the first to sell at church sales, and her whoopie pies were a special treat for all. She was an ardent card player, be it cribbage, poker, spades, as long as it was competitiv­e and she was playing. Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was a member of Flanders Baptist and Community Church in East Lyme. We will all miss our special angel.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Lane, Old Lyme. Visitation will take place from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Flanders Baptist Church, East Lyme.
