David Ferguson
Keene, N.H. — David E. Ferguson, 95, formerly of East Lyme, died Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Westwood Care Center in Keene.
He was born March 18, 1923, in New London, the son of William D. and Edna (Thompson) Ferguson. He married Gwen Gibson on June 8, 1944 in Springfield, Mass.
He attended school in Niantic and New London. In 1941 he enrolled in the naval ROTC at Brown University, Providence, R.I. He graduated with the accelerated Class of 1945 and was commissioned ensign, USNR in February 1944. During World War II, Mr. Ferguson served on destroyer escorts as an officer and retired from the USNR as a lieutenant in 1961. Mr. Ferguson retired from Electric Boat Division in 1986 after 34 years.
He is survived by three children, Andra L. Ferguson of Manchester, Robert and his wife, Paula, of Willisburg, Ky. and Alicia Drew and her husband, Richard, of Richmond, N.H.; four grandchildren, three great-granddaughters and a great-grandson; a sister-inlaw; his sister, Luella Meaux of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by Gwen, his loving wife of 57 years in 2001; also, his brothers, Scott and Merton.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. May 17, 2018, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Friends of Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve (FOHNP) or a charity of donor’s choice.
