Keene, N.H. — David E. Ferguson, 95, formerly of East Lyme, died Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Westwood Care Center in Keene.

He was born March 18, 1923, in New London, the son of William D. and Edna (Thompson) Ferguson. He married Gwen Gibson on June 8, 1944, in Springfiel­d, Mass.

He attended school in Niantic and New London. In 1941, he enrolled in the naval ROTC at Brown University, Providence, R.I. He graduated with the accelerate­d Class of 1945 and was commission­ed as an ensign, USNR, in February 1944. During World War II, Mr. Ferguson served on destroyer escorts as an officer and retired from the USNR as a lieutenant in 1961. Mr. Ferguson retired from Electric Boat Division in 1986, after 34 years.

He is survived by three children, Andra L. Ferguson of Manchester, Robert and his wife Paula of Willisburg, Ky., and Alicia Drew and her husband Richard of Richmond, N.H.; four grandchild­ren, three great-granddaugh­ters and a great-grandson; a sister-inlaw; his sister Luella Meaux of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews, grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws.

He was predecease­d by Gwen, his loving wife of 57 years, in 2001; and his brothers Scott and Merton.

A celebratio­n of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Friends of Oswegatchi­e Hills Nature Preserve (FOHNP) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
