New London police say a body was found Monday morning in a parking lot on the former Edgerton School property.

New London — Police said a body was found early Monday morning in a parking lot on the former Edgerton School property.

Chief Peter Reichard said the deceased is a white male in his mid to late 30s and that his body showed “no overt signs of trauma.” Still, it was too early to rule out foul play, he said. Police did not immediately identify the deceased man.

Two high school students found the body while walking to school a little after 7 a.m. The New London Fire Department pronounced the person dead at the scene around 7:15 a.m.

Police cordoned the area with yellow caution tape, and there was a blue tarp around the body. About 10 police officials were on scene around 9 a.m. Monday, some wearing masks and taking pictures.

In addition to New London police and fire department, inspectors from the New London State’s Attorney’s Office and the state medical examiner responded to the scene.

The cause of the man’s death remains under investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the police department’s Detective Division at (860) 447-1481 or anonymous.

Information may be submitted via the New London Tips 411 system by texting NLPDTip plus the information to Tip411 (847411).
