Steven Jastremski
Uncasville — Steven Francis Jastremski, born June 15, 1968, in New London, resident of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and formerly of Montville, left this earth on Christmas Day, 2017. He is predeceased by his brother, Raymond C. Jastremski Jr., who died Jan. 29, 1996, and his birth mother, Mary-Alice (Stapell) Jastremski, who died April 9, 1971.
Steven attended Montville schools. He worked in the construction industry mostly in Florida. In Connecticut, he did a variety of jobs as a laborer up to performing as an independent contractor for small refurbishment and new construction residential projects.
Steven had a long battle with substance abuse, going through many treatment/ rehabilitation and normalcy cycles. When not addicted, he was a jovial, good friend, there to help anyone with his untiring strength and construction and house painting skills. He also spent much of his time trying to help others that suffered from various addictions. Steven always kept in contact with his parents, who provided love and support throughout his entire life.
In 2008, a detailed interview of Steven’s long journey through addiction and recovery was made into an in-depth video by a team from a well-known university. This video was very riveting and provided a revealing look into the harsh reality many addicted persons endure. It was distributed widely to addiction treatment and recovery centers.
Unfortunately, like many thousands in our national opioid crisis, Steven succumbed from a recent overdose.
Steven was an avid and successful fisherman and spent much of his free time fishing the waters of Connecticut and Florida. Steven had a son, Steven Brennan, who recently lived and worked with his dad in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Currently, son Steven lives in Joppa, Md., with his significant other Shelbi Genco, and son Cameron, born Sept. 17, 2017, (Steven’s first grandson). Steven’s Connecticut family includes his parents, Raymond and Priscilla (Boyd) Jastremski; Steven’s aunt and uncles, Richard and Dorothy Jastremski and Joan Souza, all of Montville, and Robert and Joy Jastremski of Mystic; his cousins, William Souza of Waterford, Susan Jastremski (daughter Madison) of Niantic, Janet Stehle (husband Jack and daughter Alexis) of Ledyard, Jennifer Barrows of Montville, Linda (Souza) Strickland (daughter Raychel Noonan) both of Norwich, Wendy (Jastremski) Smith (husband Steven, son Luke and daughter Martha) of Glastonbury, and Douglas Jastremski (wife Mia and son Lance) of Mystic.
In addition, Steven has a very large extended family of relatives living in southeastern Connecticut and other states, who also loved him very much.
Family and friends will rejoice Steven’s life and share memories between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., May 12, at Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Montville. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests instead a donation to your organization of choice that dedicates their mission to the prevention and/or treatment of substance abuse.
