East Lyme beats Fitch 7-3 in ECC Div. I softball game

Old Lyme — Old Lyme High School avenged an earlier defeat to Morgan School with a 6-1 win in a Shoreline Conference boys' tennis match Monday. With the win, Old Lyme moved into a first-place tie with Morgan, both at 10-1.

The Wildcats dropped the previous meeting 4-3 last month.

"We're getting better and better," Old Lyme coach John Pfeiffer said. "We did very well."

George Danes, Morgan Greenho, Conner Wyman and Brady Sheffield each posted straight-set wins in singles action for the Wildcats.

In doubles, Quinn Hartmann and Judson O'Brien combined to win 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1, while Nick Fava and Tim O'Brien outlasted their opponents 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-1), rallying from a 5-0 deficit in the second set. In other matches: • New London swept Montville 7-0, as Zack Skrabacz, Jovahn Brown, Yoel Morel and Wesly Paulo posted singles wins. Austin Huang and Giuseppe Conte won at No. 1 doubles for the Whalers (6-6).

• Nate McCracken, Brandon Donovan, Jack Woodruff and Will Reynolds won their singles matches in straight sets in Ledyard's 7-0 win over Waterford. Chris Charette and Trevor Hutchins didn't drop a game while winning at No. 1 doubles for the Colonels (9-1). Waterford fell to 2-6.

• Williams School lost to Oxford 6-1. Ben Fauerbach won 8-0 at No. 3 singles for Williams.

Girls' tennis

• St. Bernard defeated Lyman Memorial 5-2 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division III match. The Saints received singles wins from Lauren O'Donnell, Aurianna Drinkwater, Kaila Sprecace and Hope D'Amico. Sarah Engel and Amber Caldwell won at No. 3 doubles.

• Keelin Hurtt, Brynn McGlinchey, Emma Bass and Hannah Wisner won singles matches for Old Lyme in a 7-0 shutout of Morgan in the Shoreline Conference. All three doubles duos — Shannon Nosel-Kellie Sablone, Sam Caulkins-Emily O'Brien and Emma Danes-Lauren Wallace — went three sets to win their matches for the Wildcats.

Baseball

• Byron Dewaine had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning as Montville beat Norwich Free Academy 4-2. Ken Sheehan-Heon got the win in relief and Griffin Pontbriant finished up to earn a save. Ryan Champagne had two hits for Montville (11-3). John Synott had two hits, Vin Gualtieri drove in two runs and Jordan Lake tripled for NFA (4-9).

• Luke LaSaracina had three hits and drove in three runs as Bacon Academy beat St. Bernard 17-1 in five innings. Colton Vasseur had three hits and scored twice for Bacon (12-2). Hunter Baillargeo­n and Max Adams had two hits each for St. Bernard (6-7).

Boys' golf

• Stonington's Grant Hamilton was the medalist with a 2-over-par 37 as the Bears beat New London. Jack Glenn, Jacob Geary, Caleb Silva and Aiden Adams also won matches for Stonington (7-1). New London is 1-7.

Girls' lacrosse

• Sophie Salger scored 10 goals, including the 100th of her career, as Williams School beat Providence Country Day 22-13. Audrey Matson had five goals and three assists, Ellie Fader had three goals and two assists and Morgan Pill two goals and an assist for the Blues (8-1).

• Sophomore Maggie O'Leary scored her 100th career goal in Fitch's 14-3 win over St. Bernard. O'Leary finished with four goals and two assists, while Jessica Russo added three goals and Zoe Pearse had four for the Falcons (7-4), who qualified for the state tournament for the first time since 2015. Mia Londregan had three goals for St. Bernard (4-5).

Boys' lacrosse

• St. Bernard/Wheeler ran its winning streak to six with a 14-3 win over Griswold in an ECC Division II game. Pat Brady had five goals and two assists, Scott Pion had three goals and two assists, Roland Long had two goals and an assist and Jack O'Leary had a goal and an assist for the Saints (10-1, 2-0).

• Cam Hart, James McCoy and Connor Schofner each had a goal in East Lyme's 17-3 loss to Fairfield Prep. Rob Swenson had two assists for the Vikings (7-4). Crew • Stonington won three races in a four-team regatta Sunday on the Mystic River. Competing against East Lyme, Xavier and Glastonbur­y, the Bears won the boys' varsity 1, girls' varsity 3 and boys' varsity 3 races. East Lyme won the girls' varsity 2 and boys' novice races.
