Waterford boys' lacrosse wins on Holdridge's OT goal

Schofner sparks Vikings by Falcons in ECC Div. I

Trumbull — Caleb Holdridge's fourth goal of the game came in overtime and lifted Waterford to a 12-11 win over St. Joseph in a nonleague boys' lacrosse game on Saturday.

Logan Bowdish had four goals and an assist, Michael LaForte had two goals and three assists and Cooper Alloway made 15 saves, including one in overtime, for Waterford (10-3). St. Joseph is 8-5. In other games: • East Lyme clinched at least a share of the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division I title with a 1512 win over Fitch. The Vikings can wrap up the title with a victory over winless Ledyard on Friday.

Connor Schofner had five goals and two assists, Rob Swenson had a goal and five assists, Andrew Alden and Ben Jakubczak each scored three times for East Lyme (8-4, 2-0). Quinton Sefton (six) and Eric Brodeur combined for eight saves for East Lyme. Noah Reuling had three goals and three assists, Riley Jordan and Adrian Abbiati had three goals each, Bray Wilson and John Baker each scored twice and Christian Snodgrass made eight saves for Fitch (9-4, 1-2).

H.S. girls' lacrosse

• Jacklyn Lavoie scored six goals as Waterford beat Fitch 12-10. Olivia Gianakos had three goals and Meghan Foley scored twice for Waterford (58). Maggie O'Leary had six goals and Zoe Pearse scored three times for Fitch (7-6).

• East Lyme lost to Fairfield Warde in a nonleague game, 12-3. Kristen Healy scored twice and Maya Rose made 10 saves for East Lyme (9-5).

H.S. crew

• Stonington won six of the seven races, including both varsity 1 races, in a three-team race against E.O. Smith and host Middletown. The Bears also won both varsity 2 races, the girls' varsity 3 race and the boys' novice race. Stonington finishes its season on May 20 in the Connecticu­t Public Schools Rowing Associatio­n state championsh­ip at Lake Waramaug State Park in New Preston.

Stonington's girls' varsity 1 boat was Andrea Edwards, Caroline Andrews, Lucy Rath, Lily Haghpassan­d, Liz Yarnall, Jessie Gentilella, Sydney Heughins, Sophia Anderson and coxswain Emily Tieu. The boys' varsity 1 boat was Nick Bibeau, Luke Monteiro, Ian Thornell, Erik Laskey, Tyler Stafford, Zach Pasquin, Chad Obrey, Josh Morrison and coxswain Mateo Olmedo.

• The East Lyme girls team finished second in a six-team race at the Kent Invitation­al Regatta. Also competing were the Connecticu­t Boat Club, Simsbury, Farmington, Sacred Heart and the hosts. The Vikings were second to Kent with captain and coxswain Billie Hazan, captain and stroke Rasa Kervelevic­ius, captain and 7 seat stroke Alexandra Stewart, Abby Lottridge, Julia Fenn, Lauren Real, Emma Vlaun, Sloane Putnam, and Samantha Todaro. East Lyme was third in the varsity 2 race. East Lyme will also compete on May 20 in the Connecticu­t Public Schools Rowing Associatio­n state championsh­ip at Lake Waramaug State Park in New Preston.

College track

• Connecticu­t College junior Shannon Kennedy broke the school record in the heptathlon for the third time this spring to headline a list of strong performanc­es at the New England Championsh­ips at Dartmouth. Kennedy had 4,415 points to place fifth among a field consisting of competitor­s from all three NCAA Divisions and ended the meet on a high note by clocking in a personal-best time of 2:26.22 in the 800. She also recorded the best mark in the long jump, leaping 17-feet, 4-inches, and tied for third in the high jump by clearing the bar at 5-0.25.

Other notable efforts were made by sophomore Koko Mensah and senior Aly Saperstein. Mensah placed sixth in the shot put at 44-3.25, which was her second-best throw ever, and Saperstein was in the javelin at 128-1.

H.S. boys' track

• Alex Schwindt of Fitch won the pole vault at the Greater Hartford Invitation­al and teammate Tom Joyner was second in the discus. Schwindt's vault was 11-6 and Joyner threw 1303. Lorenzo Bell was eighth in the long jump and high jump, Will Dentch was eighth in the discus and Schwindt was sixth in the high jump.

• East Lyme's Sam Whittaker set a school record in the 3200 meters at the Irv Black Invitation­al at New Britain, finishing in 3200. Three teammates had sixth-place finishes, Dylan Hatajik in the 100, Akhil Chilamkurt­hi in the 400 hurdles and Joe Andrews in the pole vault.

• Waterford's Kayvon Negahban won the high jump at the Old Saybrook Invitation­al at 5-10. Old Lyme's 4x800 relay team of William Bartlett, Nick Myers, Casey Blue and Trevor Wells won with a time of 8:42.61. Waterford, which finished fourth, also had a pair of second-place finishes. Shayne Beckloff in the 100 (11.55) and Michael Vincent in the 300 hurdles (43.69). Taking third places were Teddy Nosiku of St. Bernard in the 800 (2:02.58) and Waterford's Jared Lovell in the 110 hurdles.

H.S. girls' track

• Waterford's Sophia Podeszwa took a first and second and teammate Zora LaBonte had a pair of second-place finishes at the Old Saybrook Invitation­al. Podeszwa won the 400 in 1:02.09 and was second in the 100 hurdles (15.24) while LaBonte was second in the 100 (13.14) and 200 (27.22). St. Bernard had third-place finishes from Juliet Brady in the 100 (13.65) and the 4x800 relay team of Brigid Kunka, Sophia Duhig, Christina McCaffrey and Serena Britner (10:37.70).

• East Lyme's 4x100 relay team placed fifth at the Irv Black Invitation­al at New Britain. Chivalry Rukundo, Katie Solinsky, J'Naya Kelly and Saige Deveau ran a 52.80.

H.S. baseball

• Eli St. Germain had three RBI as Old Lyme scored 13 times in the top of the seventh inning to rout Westbrook on Friday night, 17-4, in a Shoreline Conference game at Dodd Stadium. Jace Funaro and Robby Fusari both had three hits for Old Lyme (9-7, 8-7) and Ryan Ramella had two hits including a double. Also, Ronnie Losacano, Griffin Powers and Jon Balocca each had two hits. The White Knights are 8-9, 7-9.

H.S. boys' golf

• Sam Gaboury shot a low-round 38 for Montville in its 4-3 loss to Bacon Academy in Friday's ECC Division II match. Montville is 1-9, 0-6.
