East Lyme, Stonington girls claim tennis titles

Groton — East Lyme wrapped up the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division I title in girls' tennis on Friday with a 5-2 win over defending champion Fitch.

Mary Kathryn Taylor, Colleen Keller and Ashley Brown won singles matches for the Vikings (10-1, 8-0) and the doubles teams of Neha Ande-Liz Beaulieu and Grace Foltz-Sophie Arustei also won. Samantha Cote won at No. 1 singles for Fitch (7-5, 6-2) and Haley Rodgers and Hayden Kowalski won at No. 2 doubles. In other matches: • Charlotte Johnstone, Mackenzie Sadler and Hannah Middleton won singles matches as Stonington clinched the ECC Division II title with a 6-1 win over Woodstock Academy. The Bears (14-1, 6-0) swept the doubles with wins from the teams of Margot Goodman-Ainsley Johnstone, Phoebe TownsendBr­ie Fratoni-Jaskiewicz and Holly Foster-Cassie Onorato.

• Old Lyme swept doubles play in a 5-2 win over Haddam-Killingwor­th in a Shoreline Conference match. The teams of Shannon Nosal-Kellie Sablone, Samantha Caulkins-Emily O'Brien and Hannah Wisner-Melissa Mauro won in straight sets for Old Lyme (13-5) and teammates Brynn McGlinchey and Emma Bass won singles matches in the same fashion.

H.S. boys' tennis

• Stonington lost to Woodstock Academy in an ECC Division II match, 5-2. Williams Michelson and Sean Bessette won their singles matches for the Bears (12-2, 5-1), who had already wrapped up the division title.

H.S. boys' lacrosse

• Chris Ladyga scored four goals during Norwich Free Academy's 18-8 nonleague loss to Berlin. Ryan Foster added a goal and two assists for the Wildcats (6-10) while Rye Walencewic­z had one goal and one assist.

H.S. girls' lacrosse

• Waterford's Jacklyn Lavoie scored her 147th career goal to break the program record as Waterford beat Montville 18-3 in an ECC Division II game. It was thought Lavoie had broken the record in Thursday's win over St. Bernard, but it was discovered that 2012 graduate Allie Wiggins held the record with 146.

Olivia Gianakos had four goals and three assists, Lavoie had four assists, Grace Briggs had three goals and an assist, Kaylee Swansen had two goals and an assist, Meghan Foley scored twice and Emma Brown had a goal and an assist for Waterford (7-8, 2-3). Alexis DeLucia scored twice for Montville (2-13, 0-6).

• Goalie Molly Bresnahan made 20 saves as Fitch defeated Woodstock Academy 15-6. The Falcons (8-7), who were outshot 29-23, also forced nine turnovers to back an offense which was led by Maggie O'Leary with six goals and four assists. Zoe Pearse added five goals for the Falcons while Jessica Russo scored twice and Danielle McIlquham and Nora Ryan had one goal apiece.

• East Lyme lost to Mercy in a nonleague game, 10-8. Karlie Rowe had two goals and an assist, Julia Bates scored twice and Caroline Healy had a goal and an assist for East Lyme (10-6).

H.S. softball

• Isabelle Perez threw a pair of one-hitters as Windham swept a nonleague doublehead­er from Grasso Tech, winning the opener 14-0 and the second game 16-1. Samarie Delgado singled in the first game and Elisa LeBron doubled and scored in the second game for Grasso (1-14).

• Colette Dreher drove in a pair of runs with a triple as Stonington ended its regular season with a 7-4 nonleague win over Old Lyme. Miranda Arruda added a single, double and two runs scored for the Bears (14-6) while Alison Ward was 3-for-3 with two runs for the Wildcats (12-6) and Kassidy Standish and Maddie Cann each had two hits.

• Allison Georgetti's single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored pinch-runner Emilie Pope to give Fitch a 4-3 nonleague victory over Bacon Academy. Georgetti finished 3-for-5 with two RBI for the Falcons (9-10) while winning pitcher Ellie Hohlfelder went the distance and struck out eight.

• Winning pitcher Emily Nelson struck out 12 and hit a two-run homer as St. Bernard beat New London 4-2. Nelson had two hits and three RBI for the Saints (10-8). Caylee Parker pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts for New London (4-14). Finella Smith was 3-for-3 with a triple, Jovanna Potter had two hits and Jaelynn Potter had an RBI triple for New London.

• Ciana Chiappone's two-run double capped a four-run sixth inning as Waterford rallied to beat East Lyme 5-4. Riley Mazzella and Alyson Sanford had run-scoring doubles before Chiappone's hit. Madison Nott and Chiappone had three hits each, Mazzella had two hits and Ashley Goldstein was the winning pitcher for the Lancers (11-9). Isabel Siciliano had three hits, Nikki Marsh and Alex Chambers had two hits each and Angela Venditti doubled and drove in two runs for East Lyme (11-8).
