Comcast, the cable provider, announced Friday it’s expanding its network to New London, where it will provide residents and businesses with “a new choice for TV, internet, voice, home automation and wireless services.”
Atlantic Broadband also provides cable services in the city.
“The New London area offers an attractive opportunity for us to extend our network to an area that borders our existing service areas in Groton and Norwich,” Michael Parker, senior vice president of Comcast’s Western New England Region, which includes Connecticut, said in a news release. “We are delighted to be responding to consumers and businesses who have long expressed their desire for Xfinity and Comcast Business products and services.”
Comcast announced last month that it was launching a new internet service delivering speeds up to 1 gigabit per second to residential and business customers in Connecticut. Its work to extend service throughout New London will continue through 2018.

New London — Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School’s Annual Green and Gold 5K Run/Walk takes place on today at Ocean Beach Park.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. The race starts at 9 a.m. The registration fee is $25 for adult runners and $15 for adult walkers. Registration for youth under 17 is $10. The first 100 registered runners will receive a T-shirt.
The race follows a beautiful flat course through the neighborhoods and waterfronts of New London. William Kornegay of Groton, a double amputee, inspired the crowd when he crossed the finish line on running prosthetics in 2017. He is participating in Saturday’s race once again.
“I had a great time last year participating with my family,” Kornegay said. “I’m looking forward to bringing a friend of mine who is newly injured and is looking to become more athletic and physically able. I think this would be a great opportunity for him.”
Following this all-ages race, participants are invited to attend an awards ceremony where winners will be announced and over 35 prizes awarded. There will be snacks provided by New London Parks and Recreation, and Green and Gold Face Painting by Skadoodlez courtesy of Atlantic Broadband.
All proceeds will benefit the Winthrop STEM Magnet PTO Inc., which funds educational field trips, school supplies and supplemental educational support
