Roger Wright
Old Lyme — Roger Milton Wright, 88, passed away Tuesday evening, May 22, 2018. Roger was born on Nov. 21, 1929, grew up in Hartsdale, N.Y., and was in the Marine Corps from 1947 to 1950. He graduated from Cooper Union in Manhattan Class of 1962, and was a longtime resident of Old Lyme while working for Electric Boat as a mechanical engineer for 29 years.
Roger is predeceased by his wife, Denise. They were married 67 years and were deeply devoted to each other. Together they biked, took long walks, traveled, kayaked, went bird watching, gardened and cooked. Denise had been a member of Literacy Volunteers of Eastern CT, read to grade school children and was a docent at the Florence Griswold Museum. They also supported organizations such as the Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library, Nature Conservancy and the Audubon Society. Denise passed away May 22, 2017, a year to the day before Roger.
Roger had a connection with nature and his community, passions he shared with his late wife Denise. He had a dry, ever-present sense of humor that endeared him to everyone. He was a devoted, family-oriented man and is survived by his son, Charles Wright and his wife, JoAnn; his daughter, Donna Kurpaska; his grandchildren, John Wright and Daniel Kurpaska; his great-grandchildren, Aiden and Bradley Wright; and several nieces and nephews.
