Niantic — Janet Nelson Reardon of Hartford and Niantic, died May 31, 2018, in Hartford. She was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Putnam to Carl and Irene Nelson. She was raised in Woodstock and graduated from Woodstock Academy and Annhurst College. She married William Reardon in September 1953, in Niantic.

She was the loving mother of Catherine Alulis, Patricia Flanagan, Richard Reardon and Elizabeth Reardon Crafa, and beloved Nanna to Rachel Alulis, Kelly King, Joseph Crafa, William Crafa, Alex Reardon and Jamie Reardon, and great-grandmother to Zoey Warren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marilyn, brother Carl, husband Bill and daughter Elizabeth. She was the beloved aunt of numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides being a tremendous housewife and mother to her children, Jan helped her husband in many capacities in their business “Reardon’s Color Center.” Many a painter marveled at her ability to lift a five-gallon bucket of paint. From the start of their marriage, Jan and Bill enjoyed the time they spent on Niantic Bay. They were instigators of several annual summer parties including the Blue Toe Award party and Kentucky Derby party where they enjoyed countless laughs with countless friends. Jan truly enjoyed life and persevered through her share of struggles, but to the end she was concerned for the welfare first and foremost of her family. The place on the bluff will not be the same without her. She will be missed.
