Fort Pierce, Fla. — Bernard W. “Gig” MacFarland, 77, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018, at his Fort Pierce home under hospice care, with his family present.

Gig was born on July 17, 1940, in Norwich, son of the late Arnold H. MacFarland and Lea M.(Brochu) MacFarland. Gig worked as a plumber and eventually owned his own business. He also worked for Yardney Technical Products for 26 years, retiring as a plant manager. He moved to Fort Pierce in 2008, was very active in the Fort Pierce Moose Lodge and became the administra­tor.

Gig is survived by his two sons, Bernard W. (Harley) MacFarland Jr. with Eileen Avery of Lisbon and Michael A. MacFarland of Fort Pierce, Fla.; three grandsons, Bernard W. MacFarland III and wife, Jillian and their son, Bernard IV of Lebanon, Richard L. MacFarland and sons, Bradley and Braden of Canterbury and Kenneth A. MacFarland of Jewett City; two sisters, Lorna Nichols and husband, Kenneth, of Dunnellon, Fla. and Debra Currier of Hanover. Along with several nieces, great-nieces/nephews; he will also be dearly missed by his stepchildr­en, Todd Kosma, Kara Kosma Giroux and Greg Kosma and their families.

Gig was preceded in death by his sister, Janice MacFarland Scuhyler (Bill) of Rutland, Mass.

There will be a celebratio­n of life from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the Jacques Cartier Club in Jewett City. The family asks that you come dressed in your favorite Hawaiian or Harley Davidson shirt.
