ONLINE FEEDBACK
Commenters on theday.com responded to the idea of a tunnel connecting Long Island and Connecticut as proposed in a June 6 article.
“Should have happened decades ago now it never will. Cuomo on a building jag trying to be the new robert Moses— beware his aspirations for the presidency—malloy could not even get anywhere with 1-95 from Saybrook to RI.” — bern “I would love it but it won’t happen in my lifetime.” — Jalo
“I like the plan. But 95 can’t handle the additional traffic flow. The cost of the tunnel and adding to our existing highway system will be off the charts.” — Ralph.
“Not sure how this could benefit Connecticut. All it does is alleviate traffic from Long Island through NYC on its way to New England. Perhaps some people on Long Island would take a ride they wouldn’t have otherwise taken, but that’d be a very small percentage of the traffic. Instead, it would seem that the traffic on 95 here would be the same, just joining 95 somewhere in CT instead of in NYC. Assuming most of it were headed north ...there could be some incremental economic gain locally if people stop after exiting the tunnel in CT, but realistically, they’ll probably continue on their way, especially if they only left Long Island 15 or 20 minutes prior. There’s also no way it’d be built near New London because there’s no major highway to connect with across from us. It’d have to be somewhere closer to NYC.” — Ready Eddie
“The “real” people on Long Island that call the shots, the rich progressive Democrats won’t stand for this. Mark my words, money wasted on a study that will bring out the true foes of this project. Money and power that even Gov. Cuomo does not have but wants will put him, this idea and any silly dreams in the Sound to drown.” — wooleybugger
