Lorraine Morosky

-

Norwich — Lorraine (Valentine) Morosky, 90, of Norwich and Delray Beach, Fla., died on June 4, 2018, one year after the passing of Tom, her beloved husband of 70 years.

Lorraine was born on March 7, 1928, in West Haven, to Catherine (Matry) and Ralph Valentine. She attended Norwich public schools and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1945.

On Sept. 6, 1947, Lorraine married her sweetheart, Tom Morosky, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Tom and Lorraine made their home in Norwich, where both had close families and lots of friends. For several years, Lorraine, like many women of her time, raised their children, and kept a beautiful home on Bliss Place. In the late 1960s, Lorraine joined the work force and became an assistant librarian at NFA. Many of her former students remember her fondly from this time.

Lorraine and Tom had a large and active social network. With friends and family they played bridge, had cookouts on the beach, traveled the world and even staged amateur productions of Broadway plays at each other’s homes with their group “Instant Theatricals.” Once, when asked what she did (the question implied “for a career”), she replied, “We partied a lot.” Everyone who knew her knows this to be true: Lorraine had a zest for life and her spirit of fun was infectious.

Lorraine was predeceased by her husband and by her son, Thomas Michael. She is survived by her daughter and sonin-law, Pam and Franz Edson, and by her grandchildren, Thomas Meyer (and his wife Anna) of San Diego, Calif., and Matthew Morosky of Los Angeles, Calif. She is also survived by her two sisters-in-law, Joanne Fusaro and Jane Morosky, and by many adoring nieces and nephews.

Per Lorraine’s wishes, there will be no formal service or burial. A private celebration of her life and that of her husband will be held later this summer.

Donations in Lorraine’s memory may be made to the New London Homeless Hospitality Center, 730 State Pier Road, New London, CT 06320, which helped her son Tom through a difficult time, or to the NFA Foundation, 321 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360.

Lorraine’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff on unit 4.2 of L+M Hospital, and especially to the nurses and staff at Bayview Health Care Center who have lovingly attended to and cared for both Tom and Lorraine since May of 2015.

Condolences may be shared on Mrs Morosky’s memorial page at www.neilanfuneralhome.com.
