East Lyme — Warren Grant Young, 96, died peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2018.

Warren, the son of John and Flora (Harrington) Young, was born on June 8, 1922, in Scranton, Pa. He grew up in West Newton, Mass. and graduated from Newton High School in 1940. He went on to study business administra­tion at Boston University, graduating in 1947. While at Boston University, he was the coxswain for the men’s varsity 8 crew team. His years at Boston University were interrupte­d when he served in World War II as a signalman second class in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 serving on the USS Thurston and USS Hampton. His career primarily focused on commercial sales before finally transition­ing to nuclear power industry maintenanc­e.

On May 29, 1948, he married Priscilla (Hovey) Young in West Newton, Mass. They settled in Niantic in the late 1950s where they raised their five children. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, becoming an Eagle Scout in 1939 and serving as a scout leader in Niantic.

Warren was predecease­d by his wife on March 10, 2014; his brother, Robert Young of Danvers, Mass.; and his sister, Edie Ann Hutchinson of Cousins Island, Maine.

He leaves behind his children, Scott H. Young (Ann) of Messina, N.Y., John W. Young (Cindi) of Bradenton, Fla., William H. Young (Diane) of Niantic, Joanna Y. Lazarus (Martin) of Waterford and Amy Y. Dubois (Vince) of Newmarket, N.H. Warren is also survived by eight grandchild­ren, Sara Young Grasso, Christophe­r Young, Jennifer Young Illanz, Danielle Young Peters, Brian Lazarus, Ben Lazarus, Lucienne Dubois and Brigitte Dubois; and seven great-grandchild­ren.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Apple Rehab Mystic and Center for Hospice Care for the care they gave to our dad.

Memorial services will be held at a date to be announced.

A memorial Eucharist will be held at 4 p.m. July 7, 2018, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 400 Main St., Niantic. There are no calling hours.
