Tigers rout Spinners at Dodd

Norwich — The Connecticu­t Tigers erupted for seven runs over the first two innings and cruised to a 10-3 win over the Lowell Spinners in a New YorkPenn League baseball game on Saturday night at Dodd Stadium.

Gresuan Silverio went 3-for5 and a double and three RBI to lead the Tigers (2-0) while Darwin Alvarado added a tworun triple and sacrifice fly.

Starter Jose Vasquez, the first of four Connecticu­t pitchers, earned the win by allowing only one run on one hit over five innings while striking out five and walking only two.

The Tigers and Spinners, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, play again at 4 p.m. Sunday.

• Stevie Mangrum hit a tworun homer in the top of the 11th as the Newport Gulls overcame 6-0 and 9-2 deficits to defeat the Mystic Schooners 11-9 in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game at Fitch High School. The Gulls (6-4) scored five runs in the seventh to pull within 9-7 and tied it with two in the ninth.

Steven Barmakian (George Washington) went 3-for-6 to lead the Schooners (4-6) while Brett Rodriguez (Wofford) was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored, Chris Sullivan (Hartford) was 2-for5 with two RBI and Zach Ardito (Hartford) added a pair of hits.

Matt Geoffrion (Maine), the fourth of five Mystic pitchers, suffered the loss.

The Schooners are off today and plays at Plymouth on Monday before turning home on Tuesday night to face the Upper Valley Nighthawks at 6 at Fitch.

American Legion Zone 6

• New London and Tri-Town split a Zone 6 doublehead­er at Sal Amanti Field. New London won the opener 8-4 before TriTown rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to win the second game 5-4.

Shaun Cambisaca was the winning pitcher in Game 1 for New London (6-2) while Mike Williams tripled and scored three runs.

Henrik Khoury had two hits and two RBI and Elijah Martinez had a hit and two RBI. Martinez also had a hit and two RBI in the second game while Khoury and Nate Whipple had two hits apiece.
