Ruth Pickhardt

New London — Ruth Teresa Pickhardt died on June 8, 2018, in Minneapoli­s, Minn., where she resided for the last year. Ruth was a longtime resident of New London, but moved to Minneapoli­s to be closer to her family.

She was born Sept. 17, 1925, in Meriden, daughter of Arthur H. and Mary E. (Lyons) Pickhardt. Ruth was a graduate of the former Williams Memorial Institute (WMI) and the Hospital of St. Raphael School of Nursing in New Haven. Ruth was in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII. Following that, she worked as an occupation­al health nurse at Robertson Paper Box Co. for 31 years. Ruth was active in the Visiting Nurse Associatio­n, Ladies Guild of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, The Daughters of Isabella, The Stella Maris Chapter of the NDCCN, among other organizati­ons.

She is survived by her niece Kathleen Pickhardt Haver (Dennis) of Charlotte, N.C., and nephews Walter A. Pickhardt (Sandy) of Minneapoli­s, Minn., Thomas J. Pickhardt (Jane) of Charlotte, N.C., and Paul J. Pickhardt (Gayle) of Baltimore, Md. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Harvey Pickhardt of Charlotte, N.C., as well as three grandnephe­ws, 10 grandniece­s and one great-grandnephe­w. Ruth was predecease­d by her brother, Charles L. Pickhardt, and her nephew, John C. Pickhardt.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 22, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St., New London. Interment will follow at the family plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New London.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s memory to St. Mary Star of the Sea Church or Visiting Nurse Associatio­n of Southeaste­rn Connecticu­t, 403 N. Frontage Road, Waterford, CT 06385.
