UConn men release non-league schedule

Two former Big East rivals, including defending national champion Villanova, are featured non-conference foes on the UConn men's basketball schedule for the 2018-19 season.

The Huskies released their 13-game non-conference schedule Thursday.

UConn plays three games at Madison Square Garden, taking on Villanova on Dec. 22 and facing Syracuse Nov. 15 in the first of two games in the 2K Classic. The Huskies will meet either Iowa or Oregon on Nov. 16 in New York.

Other quality non-conference opponents include Arizona and Florida State. The Huskies host the Wildcats in an entertaini­ng a marquee matchup on Dec. 2 at either Storrs or Hartford. They'll play Florida State on Dec. 8 at the Prudential Center in Newark in what will be a homecoming game for coach Dan Hurley.

Game times and sites for other non-conference games will be announced a later date.

UConn opens the regular season by hosting Morehead State Nov. 8 and University of Missouri-Kansas City on Nov. 11. The Huskies also host Cornell Nov. 20, New Hampshire Nov. 24 and UMass Lowell Nov. 27 to close out the month.

Other visitors include Lafayette on Dec. 5, Manhattan on Dec. 15 and Drexel on Dec. 18.

Schooners win

• Mic Wilson (Stony Brook) hit a goahead solo home run in the top of the eighth inning as the Mystic Schooners beat the Danbury Westerners 4-2 in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Sean Sullivan (Dartmouth) added an insurance run with an RBI single in the ninth. Anthony Garcia (Wofford) got the win in relief, allowing three hits and one run over four innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Nick Cardieri (Stetson) scored twice for the Schooners (7-7) and Sullivan and Wilson had two hits each.

Tigers blanked

• The Brooklyn Cyclones beat the Connecticu­t Tigers 6-0 in a New YorkPenn League game at Dodd Stadium. The Tigers (2-5) were held to two hits and were being no-hit until Isrrael De La Cruz reached on a bunt single with one out in the sixth inning. Ryan Karstetter of the Tigers singled in the seventh.
