Schooners rally for a 3-1 win in the NECBL
Groton — The Mystic Schooners scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, rallying for a 3-1 win over the Danbury Westerners in a New England Collegiate Baseball League game on Monday.
Mic Wilson ( Stony Brook) tied the game with an RBI double, Brett Rodriguez (Wofford) scored the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice by Chris Sullivan (Hartford), and Wilson came home on a passed ball with an insurance run. Steven Barmakian (George Washington) was 2-for-4 with a double for the Schooners (9-7).
New York-Penn League
• Marvin Malone had two hits, including a triple and solo home run, with three RBI and two runs as the Hudson Valley Renegades thrashed the Connecticut Tigers, 11-1, the Tigers' franchise-worst ninth-straight loss. Chris Betts went 3-for-3, including a double, with two runs and two RBI for Hudson Valley (8-3) and Adrian Rondon had three hits, including a double, and three RBI. Sam McMillan had two hits, including an RBI single that scored Isrrael De La Cruz in the top of the ninth, for the Tigers (2-9).
District 6 Babe Ruth (15)
• Ryan Bakken allowed two hits and a run over three innings and drove in two runs as Waterford beat New London, 15-1, in five innings. Trey Brennan had two hits, including a double, with four runs, Mike Marelli had two hits, two RBI and a run, and Ryan O'Connell had two runs and two RBI for Waterford. Ryan Gardiner singled and scored, Jesus Escarraman had an RBI, and Giovanni Galatido singled for New London.
District 10 LL baseball (10-11)
• East Lyme beat Groton 14-8 as Jack Hayes and Tyler Moore teamed up for the win. Tanner O'Brien, Gianni Vora and Noah Farrior each had multiple hits for East Lyme and O'Brien doubled. Jaxyn Beaudet and Dominick Zuliani had doubles for Groton.
• Brady Sutman tripled and scored three times as Waterford beat Pawcatuck 14-7. Tito Kiefer (double), Evan Bouges and Dylan Matis had two hits each and Josh Bergstrom doubled for Waterford. Lucas Saunders was the winning pitcher and also scored twice. Bryan Lowe had two hits and scored twice and JJ Torres added two hits for Pawcatuck.
District 10 LL softball (9-10)
• Violet Maziarz struck out 17 with five walks over six innings as Salem beat East Lyme 11-5. Kate Erikson had two hits and scored three runs, Tatum Young tripled and scored four runs, Gracie Lloyd doubled and scored twice and Maziarz had two hits for Salem. Joselyn Selerno and Mattie Bairstow pitched for East Lyme and combined for eight strikeouts.
• Charlotte Jessuck struck out 15 to earn the victory as Waterford beat Groton/Mystic 7-3. Katie Dziecinny tripled, Sophia Avin doubled and Jessuck had two hits for Waterford. Emma Robinson struck out seven and Katie Macpheason doubled for Groton/Mystic.
District 10 LL baseball (9-10)
• East Lyme beat Waterford 12-1 as winning pitcher Andrew Sevigny struck out three in three innings and tripled and drove in two runs. Matthew Shampine had two hits for Waterford.
