Edna Nazarko
East Lyme — Edna Rose Nazarko, 91, of North Bride Brook Road, died Saturday, June 23, 2018, peacefully at her residence. Edna was born on March 7, 1927, in Hyde Park, Mass., the daughter of Stanley and Julia (Serafin) Marchankevicz, one of 12 children. She married Bohdan (Bo) Nazarko on April 27, 1952.
Her lifelong career in banking began when she was selected in her senior year at Hyde Park High School to begin a training program at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston. During her years there, she rose to the position of head bookkeeper and trainer.
After marrying Bohdan in 1952, she moved to the family farm in East Lyme, where Edna and Bo made their home and raised their family of five children. Her world revolved around her family and all her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sports. Edna and Bo were often the first to arrive, and the last to leave, a game or event.
After raising her family, Edna returned to her banking career, and worked in both the front and back office of local banks and businesses including; The New London Savings Bank, The Community Service Credit Union, R. Distributors, and her sons’ Days Inn Hotel. During her retirement Edna remained active; she enjoyed line dancing and traveling with several area senior groups including Montville, Lyme and East Lyme senior centers.
Edna is survived by her children and their spouses; Paul & Lynn (Marcella), Thomas, Michael & Patti (Quillin), and Linda & Greg Gaito. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren; Jennifer, Kimberly and Heather Mariani (Peter), Masha, Nadia, Christopher and Jonathan Nazarko, and Jessica, Andrew and Michael Gaito; and her great-granddaughter Nora Rose (Mariani). She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, her son, Stephen, and 11 of her siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, at St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Ave. in Niantic. Burial at East Lyme Cemetery. A viewing and calling hours are scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave. Niantic.
