Dearden, Spinners drop Connecticu­t

Ledyard Senior League softball team opens defense of District 10 title

Lowell, Mass. — Tyler Dearden had two hits, two runs and an RBI to lead the Lowell Spinners past the Connecticu­t Tigers 3-1 Monday in a New York-Penn League game.

Dearden hit a game-tying RBI double in the bottom of the second and scored on Dylan Hardy's sacrifice fly to give the Spinners a 2-1 lead. He scored the insurance run on Xavier LeGrant's RBI double in the fourth inning.

Eduard Bazardo allowed three hits and one earned run over five innings and struck out eight to earn the win for Lowell (8-9). Devilin Granberg also singled and scored.

Dayton Dugas had two hits, including an RBI single that scored Sam McMillan, for the Tigers (6-11).

District 10 LL softball (15-16)

• Hannah Smith struck out 11, as defending champion Ledyard opened play in the Senior League tournament with a 14-0 victory over New London. Abby Fowler was 2-for-3 for Ledyard and Jenna Topalis scored four times. For New London, Arianna Guinassi singled, walked and came on to strike out three batters in 1.1 innings of relief.

• Emily Mitchell pitched a four-hitter for Waterford's Senior League team in a 15-5 victory over New London on Sunday in a game which ended after five innings. Mitchell struck out four. Lexie Mangual led the Waterford attack on offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, Kate Lange doubled and Gretchen Dusza, Bella Williams and Mitchell had multiple hits. Ashely Lepore pitched a complete game for New London and Jahila Brown tripled.

District 10 LL softball (9-10)

• Mattie Bairstow pitched a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts in East Lyme's 7-6 victory over Pawcatuck on Sunday. Mattie and Lily Hyatt each had multiple hits for East Lyme. Lindsey Houle struck out six and Makenzie Griffith was 1-for-3 for Pawcatuck.

District 10 LL baseball (10-11)

• Mystic scored eight runs in the first inning to beat Groton 12-3 Sunday. Liam and Dylan Joyce each had two of Mystic's nine hits. Reis Whitfield had two hits for Groton.

District 10 LL baseball (9-10)

• Jack Treat was 3-for-5 with three doubles and Luke Chapman was the winning pitcher as Montville defeated New London 13-6 in the semifinals Sunday. Chapman and PJ Evans also had hits. Desmond Powers led New London with two doubles and J.J. Santiago, Caydon Simmons-Gaskins and Juan Santiago-Druz each had hits.

• East Lyme edged Waterford 9-8 Sunday to advance to the championsh­ip round. Andrew Sevigny pitched four innings, giving up two runs and striking out four for East Lyme. Ryan Wargo had two hits and scored two runs and Nick Cambi had a double and three RBI in the win. Matthew Shampine had two hits and four RBI for Waterford.

SEC Babe Ruth (16-18)

• Cooper Pavlovich and Eric Patterson pitched East Lyme to a 3-2 win over Groton on Sunday.
